Better Life Social Organization (BLSO-USA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in Nepal who are facing poverty, displacement, and lack of access to basic needs. We are headquartered in Lebanon, New Hampshire and were founded in 2022 by Sharmila Karki and Dipak Niroula. Our mission is to provide comprehensive access to quality food, housing, education, basic needs, healthcare, advocacy, and economic opportunities to help eradicate poverty and improve the lives of the children we serve.

Nepal is a beautiful country with a rich cultural heritage, but it also faces significant challenges due to poverty. The United Nations Development Program ranks Nepal as the third poorest country among 58 Asian nations, with a low human development index. The civil war (1996-2006) and the 2015 earthquake have left over 100,000 parents and children homeless and in need of support. This is why BLSO-USA was founded, to address the pressing needs of children in Nepal who are facing extreme poverty and lack of access to basic necessities.

BLSO-USA is an extension of the founders’ previous work with Better Life Social Organization-Nepal (BLSO-Nepal), a registered non-profit based in Kathmandu that provides basic needs, healthcare, education, and shelter to children in need. BLSO-Nepal has a dedicated team of 13 full-time staff members who are passionate about improving the lives of children in Nepal. Over the past decade, Sharmila and Dipak have impacted the lives of thousands of children, women, and farming families in Nepal through their work with BLSO-Nepal.

The founders of BLSO-USA have a personal connection to the cause, having been born and raised in rural eastern Nepal. They witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of poverty and the 2015 earthquake that struck Nepal and caused widespread death and displacement. Sharmila and Dipak were among those displaced. They have used their experiences to further their mission of improving the lives of children in Nepal.

Our founders have a personal connection to the cause and a decade-long track record of impacting the lives of those in need through their work with BLSO-Nepal. We are dedicated to improving the lives of children in Nepal and creating a brighter future for those who need it most.
